The BMA fund granted scholarships to the following students in 2022 for a total of $22,500.00

Morgan Shibles

Morgan was a student-athlete at Deering High School and a dear friend to Blain. She graduated in the Class of 2022. Morgan is attending the University of Maine, Orono, majoring in Business. Morgan shared “Stories about Blain” for her essay.

Michael Scannell

Michael graduated from Cheverus High School in the Class of 2020. Michael was on the sailing team and is attending the University of New England with a major in Marine Affairs and a minor in Aquaculture. Michael wrote an essay, “Sailing away from the past,” about what being on a team sport means to him.

Jacob Bouchard

Jacob “Boosh” Bouchard was a student-athlete at Portland High School and a great friend to Blain, graduating in the Class of 2021. Boosh played on many teams with Blain, football, and basketball. Jake is attending Thomas College with a major in Marketing /Sports Management. Jake has continued to play basketball on the Thomas College team. Jake shared a “Blain Morrison Alves Story” as his essay.

Jonah Green

Jonah is an island friend of Blain. Attended Peaks Island elementary school w/ Blain and then graduated from Portland High School, Class of 2020. Jonah played on football and basketball teams with Blain. Jonah is attending Trinity College in Hartford, CT, majoring in Economics. Jonah is playing football for Trinity. Jonah also wrote a “BMA story” as his essay.

Aalliyah Ferreira

Aalliyah was a student-athlete at Deering High School and a special friend to Blain. Blain and Aalliyah received the Gloria Miller Award for school spirit. Aalliyah is attending the University of Maine, Orono, majoring in Psychology and minoring in Kinesiology. Aalliyah shared “The BMA Experience” for her essay.

Ryan Porter

Ryan is a South Portland High School Class of 2018 graduate. He knew Blain from his experience as a coach for SPH basketball. Ryan is attending Southern Maine Community College with an Education Major. Ryan shared his experiences with Blain for his essay.

Will Vachon

Will was a student-athlete and football teammate of Blain at Deering High School, graduating Class of 2020. Will is attending the University of Southern Maine with a major in Health Science. Will’s essay shared what being on a team sport means to him and one of those “Blain” stories. Will is currently on the track team at USM.

Sarah Temple

Sarah attended Deering High School with Blain before moving over to the other side of the city to Portland High School, Class of 2022. Sara is attending the University of South Carolina Columbia with a Criminology and Criminal Justice major. Sarah shared a story about the “Pleasure of going to school with Blain.”

Mitchell Labbe

Mitchell was a student-athlete at Thornton Academy, Class of 2021. Mitchel played on many BlueWave basketball teams with Blain. Mitchell is attending High Point University with a major in Business. Mitchell shared an “Experience playing on a team with Blain” for his essay.

Ben Smith

Ben was a middle school teammate and a buddy of Blains, playing basketball for King Middle School. Ben went to Portland High School and graduated Class of 2021. Ben is attending Quinnipiac University in Hamden, CT, majoring in Journalism / Broadcasting. Ben shared an essay on a “Time in his life when he was so happy and carefree” with Blain.
